Harmony & Joshua's Wedding at The Highland Loft | Elgin, IL | Kane County
Harmony & Joshua were wed at the Highland Loft in Elgin, IL last month. Although I met with them for an engagement shoot last summer, it wasn't apparent until their wedding just how in love with each other they really are! After seeing all the pics in their gallery, just the absolute adoration they have for each other is apparent.
He comes from a very large family, which I really didn't realize until we did family formals after the ceremony, only to see he was completely outnumbered by women, 3 of whom sang the entrance during the ceremony (they were amazing!) His mom was all smiles during first looks and her dance with Joshua. Harmony was surrounded by her sisters and best friends and the first look with her bridesmaids had one of the best reactions we've caught on video to date! Although both Harmony and Joshua lost their fathers, they had beautiful signs and saved seats for each of them during their nuptials. Her mom walked her down the aisle, and gave a very touching toast during dinner.
One of the best ideas I came away with from their event was this: once Harmony was given away by her mom at the altar, the pastor had them face the guests and asked that everyone "get your cell phone photo-snapping out of your system" as they wanted their guests to enjoy their time during H&J's "I dos" and that all the precious moments were being caught by professional photographers (shout out to us, what?!) where they would be able to see all the photos. They stood still for a good 30 seconds and phones came out flying. The pastor addressed the crowd, saying now was the time to stop, and sit back and enjoy their wedding together.
I noticed a HUGE difference in this crowd as they snapped photos all over the place, then kindly put away their phones during the ceremony, so that we were able to photograph every moment without phones in the shots. COUPLES: This has got to become a new trend. Please. I implore you. Before you start your ceremony, stop, face the crowd, make that announcement, and let people get all their Facebook/SnapChat/Instagram/Tiktok-taking out of their system so they can not only enjoy your wedding ceremony but can help avoid all those pesky phones in your photos!!!!!
